Citation when referring to the author in a sentence:

In-Text Citation with multiple authors:

• When document has 1 or 2 authors
  • (1st author last name, 2nd author last name, year)
  • Example: (Webb, Bondy, 2020)
• When document has 3 or more authors
  • (1st author last name et at., year)
  • Example: (Webb et al., 2020)

A book by one author:

• Author Last Name, First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of book. Publisher.
   
  • Example: Gardner, H. (1993). Creating minds. Basic Books.

E-Book:

• Author Last Name, First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of book. Publisher. 
  • Example: Toby Miller. (2021). A COVID Charter, A Better World. Rutgers University Press.

Print Journal

Author Last Name, First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of Article. Title of Journal, Volume (Issue #), Page Numbers.
****In this example, "18" is the volume number, “3” is the issue number, and "5-18" are the page numbers.****

Example: Hall, D. T. (1990). Promoting work/family balance. Organizational Dynamics, 18(3), 5-18.
 

Journal article found in a database:

Author Last Name, First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of Article. Title of Journal, Volume (Issue #), Page Numbers. doi number.

Note about DOI's:

DOI's (Digital Object Identifers) must be in URL format: https://doi.org/then the number.

Rules about listing authors:

1. One author: 

Author last name, first initial. 

Example: Webb, A.M. 

2. Two authors: 

1st author last name, initials of first name, & 2nd author last name, initials of first name. 

Example: Webb, A.M., & Bondy, A.E.

3. First 20 authors

List all 20 in standard author format. Add ampersand (&) before the last author.

4. More than 20 authors:

List the first 19 authors then ellipsis (...) followed by final author's name. No ampersand (&).
