ENG 112: Plagiarism

Welcome to the English 112 LibGuide! This LibGuide replaces a traditional textbook and is designed to be used with A Pocket Style Manual.

What Is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism, according to Dictionary.com, is:

An act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.

  • Plagiarism is considered "stealing" an author's work.  Simply rewording the text does not avoid plagiarism.  And note especially:  it does not even have to be intentional to be considered plagiarism.
  • Plagiarism is something taken very seriously by the college.  Penalties may include a failing grade for the assignment, a failing grade for the course, or, in extreme cases, expulsion.  Forewarned is forearmed!

Before proceeding, please acquaint yourself with the Code of Student Conduct at the link below, paying special attention to rule 9.
